Three Natural Homemade hair Care products that you Must try
In this blog, I will share with you three 100% natural homemade products for the overall nourishment of hair. This includes a shampoo, a conditioner and hair oil. What’s amazing is that they are more economical and last longer than the common commercial products. In effectiveness, they stand toe to toe to the best hair care products. And yes, they are so effortless that anyone of us can make them. So without any further delay, let’s get started.
1) Shampoo
The purpose of using shampoo is to remove dirt, dead skin cells, sweat and excess oil from the scalp. However, the problem with most commercial products is that they are packed with so many harmful chemicals which when regularly get in contact with the scalp sometimes irreparably damage the hair causing myriad hair problems. Well, there is one natural product that is capable of doing everything that a shampoo is supposed to do without damaging the hair. In fact, it nourishes them. It is soapnut, familiarly known as reetha.
Mother nature’s this wonder fruit is the perfect hair cleanser. Due to an impressive nutrient profile, it renders the hair naturally strong and shiny. To use it, you simply need dried soapnuts which you can easily get offline from a provision store at Rs 300 per Kg. Add them in a grinder and turn them into a powder. Yes, no need to get into the hassle of deseeding them, soaking them or boiling them. And its alright if the powder is not smooth. Now, transfer it into an airtight container and lo! your natural hair cleanser is ready. It will easily serve you for good one year. Keep this container in your washroom. Along with it, also keep a small bowl. Everytime, you want to shampoo, just take some of this reetha powder. Add some water and using your fingers, give it a good mix. You will see a few soap bubbles forming that’s when you apply it evenly onto your hair just like a normal shampoo. The only difference will be that it won’t form much lather and it is not important.
Marketing has brainwashed us in such a way that today we rate a shampoo on the basis of how much lather it produces. As a result, in competition, brands have started adding more and more of the cheap toxic sulphates rather than actually healing the hair. The beauty of reetha powder is that it removes the excess oil, making your hair aptly dry after the wash. If you stick to reetha powder for washing hair, be sure that you have taken a major step to eradicate problems like hair fall, dandruff premature greying of hair, scalp itching. split ends and head lice. It’s that effective. Of course, to make it more nourishing, you can add equal amounts of dry amla and shikakai which are equally priced and then follow the same process. But have no doubt that reetha powder alone is enough. And what’s better is that comparing it with a popular commercial shampoo, it costs less than 1/4th of its price. Try it out and say hi to healthy hair.
2) Hair Conditioner
Your hair needs conditioning to smoothen the hair cuticles, add volume and reduce hair thinning but you don’t need a hair conditioner.
Yes, we must understand that any oil has the capability to condition the hair. It’s similar to using a moisturiser after a face wash. So, if you regularly use a hair oil, you can totally skip using a conditioner. However, if at all you want to use a separate hair conditioner, ensure that it is 100% natural. Like aloe vera gel is a good option. Curd is among the best hair conditioners which is not just oily but has sufficient protein and probiotics to strengthen the hair follicles and soften the hair. Apart from the oil, if you just once in a week apply curd on your hair and then wash off with reetha powder, your hair will be properly conditioned.
Buttermilk and whey water, since time immemorial, have been used to wash hair. They both are 2 in 1, shampoo as well as a conditioner. Finally, let’s make a hair oil, not just any hair oil but onion hair oil An oil not just protects the hair from wear and tear but also strengthens its roots. And the red onion infused hair oil is a step ahead as it effectively promotes hair growth and combats hair fall which is why n number of brands have launched their own products. Although, apprehensions may arise about their high cost, low concentration of onion in them, added fillers in the form of artificial fragrances, synthetic colours, mineral oil and chemical preservatives that instead of solving, create new hair problems.
So why not make an authentic red onion hair oil which is easy, economical, effective and requires
just two ingredients. Onions and cold pressed sesame oil. To start with, finely chop 4 medium sized onions. Turn on the flame and place a kadhai over it. Put about 500 ml of the cold pressed sesame oil in it. If you want, you can change the base of oil to mustard or coconut oil also. Just make sure that they are cold pressed and not the regular ones which are of low grade. The benefit of using sesame oil is that it is highly medicinal and is suitable for all hair types. Now add the freshly chopped onions. Ensure that the flame is on low. Now, you just need to cook the onions in it for about 20 minutes. You will notice the oil turning dark. Now, turn off the flame, cover it with a lid and let it sit for a good 4 hours. The oil will get cool, the medicinal properties of the onions will properly seep in. Once cool, strain it and transfer the oil in a bottle and is ready to nourish your hair for the next 6 months. You can discard the left over. When using, rub it in between your palms to heat it up and then gently apply onto your hair in a circular motion. Made using a cold pressed base oil, fresh onions in proper quantity without any fillers or additives, it is the real red onion hair oil that your hair deserves.
